Eventhough Sekera started his career as a painter who, at the same time, contributed short essays and plays to sinhala weekly papers and magazines, his intial recognition as a popular artist came by as a result of Swarnathilaka, a musical play written and produced by him.
In his novels and short stories Mahagama Sekera created an unsophisticated world effectively with the use of unpretentious words. He sustained that spirit of freshness of the colloquial language with disarmingly simple style. |
